Free Dog Training Tip - Powerful Tips To Train Your Dog

There are many prospective rewards and benefits to having a dog, however, without suitable training a dog can actually increase your stress level rather than decrease it. When your dog jumps all over an important guest to your home, or he barks and barks for no basis, or he chews up your favorite shoes, it can be very nerve-racking. That is one reason why it is so imperative to start training your new puppy straight away and to continuously be consistent.

Under No Circumstances Hit Or Yell At Your Puppy

Should you employ a pro trainer you should make sure that the trainer you decide on has philosophies that you agree with and whose training methods make sense to you. Some dog trainers are commanding and they demand respect and obedience, while others may be more loving and tolerant with a greater focus upon the emotional connection between trainer and dog. Both approaches can be effective so you need to pick which one feels right to you.

Three things to try to remember when schooling your dog:

#1 Get your dog's favorite treat. The food is to reward her whenever she does what you say properly.

#2 Sow how does she know what to do? By voice and hand commands.

#3 Begin with one form of training on a daily basis.

Dog training will lead to a healthier, happier pet and a more pleasing connection with your puppy. Your puppy will know how to behave and you will also know how you can control the conduct of your dog as well. Your dog will be safer and more contented and so will you.

Dog training will take time so you will need fortitude and determination to follow through but the rewards will be well worth it for you and your family and your dog.

You will find "boot-camp" type training programs where your dog remains at a special kennel for a few weeks all through the most thorough training. At the end, the owner comes in and participates in order to make sure that they can handle the dog as easily as the trainer. - 31845

Know How To Train Your Dog And Also Have A Interesting Time

By Theresa Q Watson

Dog training will lead to a healthier, happier pet and a more gratifying connection with your dog. Your puppy will know how to behave and you will also know how you can control the behavior of your dog as well. Your dog will be safer and more content and so will you.

A dog will do anything to please you but he needs to plainly comprehend what you want. You must be the established "alpha dog" and you must be firm and patient and each time follow through. It will not take too long if you are consistent. Your pet will work hard to delight you if he undoubtedly comprehends what is expected of him.

To be able to avoid boredom, it is recommended that you have a routine for either walks and exercise or a play session. This can help your dog avoid the boredom that can lead to detrimental behavior.

A treat does not inevitably have to be food. It can be a stroll in the park, playing in the yard, riding in the car or even just a hug and pat on the head. Love and affection should not be withheld, as your dog will do just about anything for that alone. This is a great way to sustain your puppy's motivation to please you.

Whenever you bring a new dog home you need to institute the ground rules right away. A dog can quickly develop bad habits if they are not stopped right away but they can also learn very quickly what is suitable behavior and what is not. Puppies can be very charming and lovable but they need correction to build excellent habits early on.

For you to keep your puppy's attention you can do things that he appreciates but you must also reward him for small successes. Do not present a food reward every time, however, because irregular reinforcement is actually much more effective than continuous reinforcement because he never realizes when he will get the treat so he will keep doing the behavior on the hope that he will get the food reward. Also too many food treats can be bad for your dog's physical condition and weight. However, love and attention should be consistently given.

You must at all times follow through with your dog when you are training him. Anything less just leads to turmoil and discord. You must set the rules and he must follow them each time and consistently.

Teaching your puppy with positive reinforcement will speed up the training process and it will make it more simple and much more enjoyable. Your dog only wants to delight you and if you give him positive reinforcement, he will carry on to do what you want and he will do whatever you ask of him. He will be happy to make you happy and you will be pleased when your training just gets easier and easier. - 31845

Training your dog to pay no attention to distractions may be challenging as dogs are social animals and they typically love both people and other animals. However, it is very important that you are able to command your dog's attention despite of what is going on around you so it is very important to work on this. You can try to get his attention with a favorite toy or a treat as a temptation to get the attention back to you. If your dog is clicker trained, he should bring his attention back to you with a click.

When you initially begin training you can use visual cues, treats and rewards and other tools, but sooner or later your dog should be able to respond as you wish with just the sound of your voice. Be consistent with all of your voice commands so that your dog is never mystified about what you want.

When you are housetraining your puppy you need to shower him with love and attention when he does it appropriately. Make a big deal about it and reward and praise him abundantly. Soon he will each time go where he is expected to because it pleases you so much.

You will need to establish yourself as the "leader of the pack" or the "alpha dog" straight away with your dog. Dogs are pack animals and they closely follow a chain of command within the pack. Also, most dogs will try to take on the dominant role if they can and that can be extraordinarily derogatory to the training of your dog. So it is important to establish the pack hierarchy with you as the alpha from the very start.

Spaying or neutering your dog is not only a satisfactory way to avoid litters of puppies, but it is positive for your puppy's health. Also, it will eradicate many aggression problems and you will have fewer behavior problems.

Normally strive to keep your dog training sessions short enough so that you are both still having fun. Some dogs understand faster than others and you will need to accept and respect your dogs own characteristics and personality in order to the get the greatest outcomes with training. If you respect him and keep it fun, your puppy will try harder to please you and you will be more apt to have the connection you want.

Pups can be easily distracted so it is up to the trainer to make the training entertaining and engaging. Try not to spend too much time training at the beginning and as soon as it stops being fun for the dog it is likely time to end that session. Keeping the training interesting and fun is a key to long-term dog training success.

If you are searching for a long-term, happy and successful rapport with your dog there is no uncertainty about the importance of training your dog well. You need to establish who is in control and who is the alpha dog, along with the rules of your house. Your dog will be happier and you will too.

A dog will do anything to satisfy you but he needs to plainly comprehend what you want. You must be the established "alpha dog" and you must be firm and patient and each time follow through. It will not take too long if you are reliable. Your dog will work hard to thrill you if he undoubtedly understands what is expected of him.

Most dogs are naturally curious and they will sniff around the area, dig and play around. Puppies are also easily distracted by noises, other people and other animals. Cool Puppy Training Methods For Potty Training

By Kevin Z Smith

Buying a new puppy is always an exciting time for a family. Puppies are so fun and adorable that everyone loves them. They quickly become part of the family and everyone enjoys the playing, the curiosity and the sweet cuddliness but nobody likes it when they go potty in the house. Puppy potty training is probably the most difficult and likely the only real problem that goes with owning a new puppy but if you are going to be a contented dog owner you will need to know that your puppy house training is efficiently done.

One of the most crucial thing to remind yourself of and to be wary of is that your puppy is still just a baby. He does not yet have the ability to control his elimination habits or to know what you are wanting him to do when you tell him to go potty. You must have patience and work with him closely for a couple of weeks before he develops the ability to ask you when it is time to go out and to manage his bladder and other functions.

At Twelve weeks of age a puppy will have to go outside as often as every 15-20 minutes and even more if he is actively frolicking. A quietly resting or sleeping puppy will not have to go out quite as often so during the night you can give him more time usually if he is sound asleep. You should not wake up a sleeping puppy just make sure to take him out to potty as soon as he awakens.

Consistency is the most important aspect of puppy house training. Be consistent in taking him out on his leash to the same spot every time. Be consistent about using the same commands such as "potty now" every time. As well as be consistent with your abundant praise and special treats when he does a good job.

Should you make the potty training a positive experience for your pup your house training will be finished sooner. Which means that you will need to be patient and loving even when there is an accident. All you have to take him outside and praise him when he does it right and don't give it any attention when he manages to do it wrong. Your puppy wants to make you happy so it is crucial that you do not do anything that will confuse him.

It really is doubtful that you will be able to spend all of your time with your puppy so when you need to be away from your dog you should use a crate. Puppies and dogs are natural den animals and they like to have a small place of their own. Additionally, puppies will rarely dirty their own space so a crate will assist you in teaching your puppy how to control him or her self.

Keeping a positive atmosphere and consistency will be the most important aspects of your puppy house training. Make certain you are consistently taking your puppy outdoors, that you consistently take him to the same spot and that you consistently give him praise and treats for a job well done. If you make the whole puppy house training experience a positive one for your puppy you will have success more quickly and it will be more effective.

It should take a few short weeks to complete your puppy house breaking. Doing it right will serve you for the whole time that you own your dog so be consistent and positive and you'll be able to enjoy many happy years with your pup. - 31845

Welsh Terriers A Facing a Struggle

By Owen Jones

Originally, Welsh terriers were bred for hunting rabbits, foxes and badgers, but public opinion and the decline in the lust for blood in general have gone against blood sports and so this native breed of Wales has become a show dog and a pet. Breeders attempt to surpass each other by breeding the Welsh terrier to have a thicker wiry coat and deeper colouration. The Welsh terrier is also a popular pet because it is one of the most easy-going terriers.

The Welsh terrier is a fun loving dog. It just loves to run, chase and play, which makes it a smashing companion and an ideal pet. Welsh terriers need lots of exercise, so be prepared for plenty of walks, if you decide to get one.

It is a good idea to 'socialize' your dog as early as possible. This means that you should introduce your Welsh terrier puppy to children and other dogs at an early age. The more you encourage your dog to play with other dogs as a puppy, the less trouble you will have with your dog fighting or barking at other dogs and cats. It's the same story with children. Children can play very roughly, and a dog could be forgiven for biting back, but it can be avoided by introducing your Welsh terrier puppy to children while it is still young. The child might learn respect, but the dog will learn tolerance.

The Welsh terrier is easily trained, if you like your dog to do tricks. it is an intelligent breed and, being former hunters, they are good at learning commands and tricks. Train your Welsh terrier with kindheartedness and reiteration. They like to retrieve sticks and play with a ball. Many people train their Welsh terriers to catch a flying Frisbee too.

A Welsh terrier will groom himself quite meticulously, but you can help out by brushing him once a week in order to eradicate the dead and loose hair. This will also help cut down the amount of hairs dropping inside your house, although terriers in general, and wire-haired dogs in particular do not shed as much hair as soft coated dogs. You could also help by wiping him over with a damp cloth from time to time in order to pick up any dust on his coat.

A Welsh terrier is very energetic and very curious, so it is prudent to keep your dog in a yard that has been fenced off. However, the fence needs to be reasonably high, because the Welsh terrier has an excellent capacity to jump due to its long legs.

The Welsh terrier is Britain's oldest variety of dog, but it is now under pressure. The British kennel club registers only 300 Welsh terrier puppies a year, whereas it registers tens of thousands of puppies of other, more popular, breeds. The Welsh terrier is a strong-willed animal, so it does need a strong-willed and patient owner.

However. if you want a Welsh terrier and you persist with it, you will never look back. They have a lot to give and, as with so many things in life, you only get out what you are willing to put in. - 31845

Learn How To Train Your Puppy And Have A Exciting Time

By Susanna Armstrong

Your pet is a member of your family and he reflects upon you. You teach your kids to be respectable members of society; you need to educate your dog to be a respectable member of society too. A well-behaved, obedient and compliant dog is a pleasure to own and a pleasure to be around, but a puppy will not become that well-mannered dog without some training. Training your dog is vital.

Your dog's temperament will be very significant when it comes to training your dog. Many dogs are nervous, is your dog timid because of past abuse or just because of a meek personality? A dog may also be assertive, perhaps because of past abuse or because of a character trait where he wants to establish himself as the alpha dog. The training you select will be dependent upon what you are looking for and the characteristics that you want to instill and the temperament and personality of your own dog.

Regardless of whether you choose to train your dog yourself or enlist the assistance of a professional, you want to make sure that the energy and patience that is required is there. You also want your dog to be trained with love so that your dog achieves the highest outcomes.

A few items to keep in mind when schooling your dog:

#1 Reward your pet each time he/she does what you say successfully with a treat.

#2 Train via voice and hand commands.

#3 Commence with one type of training every day.

You are able to start with training your dog right now. Take a look at the many dog-training programs and find the one that you feel the most happy with, then just sign up, download it to your computer, and start training your dog right away.

Although there are a range of distinctive training approaches and you can pick the one that you believe will work for you, there are a few consistent principles when it comes to dog training. Consistency, patience and persistence and the unconditional need for the person to be in the "alpha dog" role are constant in each great program.

Whenever selecting a pro dog trainer you should ask for recommendations from individuals that you respect and you must also shop around by asking questions and comparing. You may pick a trainer and then change your mind, but be wary of this because most dogs need constancy in order to make good improvement.

So that you can use positive reinforcement you should praise and reward your dog when he does something right and give him little or no attention at all when he does something wrong. Yelling or reprimanding him when he does something wrong will only end up mystifying him and it will not help your training efforts. - 31845

An Owner's Duty For Having A Respectful Dog

By Alice E Stewart

There in actuality is no reason for a inadequately behaved dog. Most dogs are fairly straightforward to train when you make a commitment to it. A dog's activities is the responsibility of the owner.

If you are going to be a dog owner, the most essential thing that you will need to do is to prove a pack order. You have got to be the alpha dog. Dogs are instinctive pack animals and they hold fast directly to pack order. You and every human being member of the family must be exceeding the dog in the pack order. That means that when a human being family unit member speaks, they pay attention and do as they are told.

Dogs are nothing like humans. They cannot think logically. You are not being cruel to your dog when you persevere that he obeys you. You have to be the boss and he will be in love with you more for it.

If you are going to be sure to keep your dog out of harm's way and your family unit happy you must be able to control your dog. He will respond to you every time if he considers you to be the alpha dog.

There are a few secrets that are vital to consider when training your dog. First off, dogs act in response to affirmative reinforcement. You can always get improved outcomes with praise and treats than you can with unhelpful reinforcement, such as anger and yelling.

Your most excellent results will come when you ignore negative behavior and reward good behavior. When you give attention to your dog for bad activities, you can end up creating fear instead of obedience and compliance. Again, dogs cannot infer, they don't know why you are enraged with them and it just results in terror.

You must also support sought after behavior straight away, or else your dog will not associate the most wanted actions with the reward. Your dog only lives in the current moment so if it doesn't ensue straight away, he won't get it. You can reward your dog with treats, praise, toys, playtime or even just a pat on the head. A dog will act in response to affirmative reinforcement, in spite of of the form it takes.

As soon as your dog comprehends the desired conduct and he is doing it on command, you then need to start rewarding him only irregularly. Like Pavlov's dog, intermittent reinforcement will fortify in the behavior better than giving him a reward every separate time.

Your dog can become well trained relatively fast if you are steady in your training efforts. Just make sure that you are the alpha dog of the pack and that you follow through with all of your efforts. - 31845

Crucial Training Tips For Dogs

By Royce Hoover

Dogs can be outstanding companions and excellent family pets. We have called them "man's best friend" forever because of that. But in order to be a good doggy resident and a dependable family pet you must teach your dog well.

As soon as your puppy arrives home you need to initiate training him for obedience. You can expect your puppy to be more or less "fully trained" at about a year of age, nevertheless you will need to work with him to keep his skills sharp for the remainder of his life. A well-trained dog is enjoyable to own and a joy for persons to be around.

The number one rule of dog training is that you must be the "alpha dog". Some people may not like that expression but the reality is that dogs are pack animals and they expect to have a leader. You must be the leader and all of the human members of your family must outrank your dog in the pack order. Dogs will do anything for the leader of the pack so that must be you.

Never allow your dog to show dominance. He must wait for his food until you are done eating. This is a understated but critical thing. You must also never permit him jump on you or other people either.

Do not ever permit your puppy to do stuff that you will not permit him to do as an grown dog. This includes jumping and nipping at you. One of the most important things in training a dog is consistency. A dog cannot reason like a human and he will not recognize that it is tolerable to jump on you in your play clothes but not in your business suit. He also won't understand why he could do something as a puppy but he can't continue to do it as an adult dog. Be consistent.

If you get a crate all of your teaching will be easier. Dogs actually feel safe and secure in a comfortable and warm place that they feel is their own. Your puppy may whimper when he goes into the crate at the beginning but you need to just leave him there. He will adjust and he will truly grow to like it very soon. A crate will make housetraining and obedience training easier.

It is vital for your dog's own wellbeing to sit and stay. You must be able to get your dog to stop and stay if necessary. It is imperative to be able to control your dog at times and you will need to make sure that he is accommodating with your commands in order to avoid troubles like running off or jumping all over the visitors to your home.

Teaching your dog to walk on a leash and to heel is also an vital lesson. And after the basics you will probably want to teach your dog some fun things like fetching. A well-trained dog makes the best pet so do not slack on your duties as a accountable pet-owner. - 31845

The American Kennel Club And A Number Of Standard Dog Breeds

By Rolf Bullock

The American Kennel Club has long been the nations support for dogs and the persons who love them. The AKC registers dogs and can grant a certified printed or electronic record that will display the ancestry of a dog and all of the essential information concerning the ancestors in a dog's family tree.

There are over 160 breeds of acknowledged purebred dogs that the AKC recognizes. There are the popular breeds that are known to very nearly everybody like the Labrador Retriever or the Cocker Spaniel and there are some very obscure breeds that are much more rare like the Borzoi or the Petit Basset Griffon Venden.

The recognizable breeds are further broken down into groups, which imply a group that fits the distinctiveness of the breed. These groups often point out the use of the dog and what it was bred for in the past, whether it was for hunting, herding or even just for fun.

The sporting group includes breeds that have instinctive instincts for water and woods. Many of these dogs are good with hunting and other field activities. Breeds from the sporting groups need consistent, invigorating exercise. Sporting dog breeds comprise pointers, retrievers, setters and spaniels.

The breeds from the hound group were bred for hunting. These breeds usually have great endurance and an acute sense of smell in order to trail prey. Basset hounds, Beagles and Bloodhounds are part of the hound group.

The working group was dogs that were bred for working such as pulling sleds or performing water rescues. The next group is the Terrier group and they were firstly bred to pursue and kill vermin. Terriers usually have uniquely feisty and spunky personalities.

The toy group was generally bred as a pet and as true to their title they tend to be little but bouncy. There are little dogs in every group however, so all small dogs are not categorized into the toy group. Some of the toy breeds include the spunky Chihuahua and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. The next group is the non-sporting group and it includes such breeds as the Chow-chow and Dalmatian. The Poodle is also part of the non-sporting group.

The herding group is the newest categorization that just came about in 1983. These breeds were once part of the working group. These dogs were bred to herd other animals such as cattle or sheep. These include the Corgi and the Shetland Sheepdog. Each group of breeds has their own unusual characteristics and you need to check them out to see which one appeals to you. - 31845

Teaching Your Puppy To Be A Trustworthy Citizen

By Tyler Franklin

Dogs are pack animals and many of their behaviors reveal this truth. When you get a new puppy one of the initial and the most imperative things that you can do is to set up domination. You are the "pack leader" and you must act accordingly.

A new puppy will instinctively spend a immense amount of time trying to figure out where they fit in the hierarchy of their new home. They do this by trying to establish their own control. A few breeds have more dominant personalities such as the terriers or Chihuahuas. Other breeds are more biologically submissive.

The moment when your puppy comes home he needs to have his place in the chain of command established. He needs to be responsive that you and all of the individual family members in your home are dominant over him. This is not a matter of reprimand but it is something that must occur if he is to become a content and obedient member of your family.

A few easy rules will help both of you establish this chain of command. If you don't follow these rules your puppy will be getting mixed signals and your training will be much more arduous as he will be perplexed and will not really know what you want and who the assertive individual is.

The leader must each time eat first. Do not let your puppy eat before you eat. If you are planning on eating about the same time as you plan to feed your puppy, you need to make your puppy wait until you are done. Or you can have your puppy eat at a whole separate time than you eat. In the beginning you may want to call your puppy to you to get his food and make him stay before you give it to him. You can teach him to sit and then give him his food.

Touching and handling a dog provide solid signals to him about who is in charge. Your puppy may whine and wail or even act as if that you hurt him at the start when you handle him for straightforward grooming rituals. If he does this you must completely disregard him and persevere on concluding. You must always follow through with what you start with a puppy because he will discover immediately when you really mean something and if you are wishy-washy he will get another mystifying signal.

When puppies are little they use their mouths to nip and bite at things. You must stop this behavior without delay by giving him a quick "No" and a tap if required. The leader of the pack never allows nipping and you are the leader of the pack.

It is critical with a new puppy to show him that you are forceful so try to stay away from games like "tug'o'war" where he can get forceful and show too much dominance. Make sure that you reward his good behavior with praise and treats but just disregard his bad behavior as you initiate obedience training. Keep these straightforward rules in mind and you can swiftly teach your puppy to be a polite and well-trained dog. - 31845

Some trainers also recommend putting dog poop into the holes as the dog will no longer want to play after he finds his own poop!

Hybrid Dogs, Mixed Breed Dogs and Purebreds

By Jacqueline J Long

People have long had a love affair with mixed breed dogs or "mutts". These dogs tend to vary quite a lot in size, looks and disposition, even when they come from the same family. Mutts habitually have very good healthiness and they make great pets.

A mutt is a dog that is a outcome of an unknown ancestry. They are not of one particular breed and it is usually indefinite if there parents are of purebred status. Mutts have an unfamiliar origin and a uncertain inherited line.

A purebred on the other hand is a dog that has two parents that are mutually of the same type. Many times there are extensive records of the genetics of these dogs and breeders are very prudent in their reproduction techniques to make sure that they produce the strongest genetic tendencies.

You may have a preference a purebred for a pet or you may favor a mutt. A mutt will usually have durable healthiness and they do make wonderful pets but a purebred has precise qualities that are bred in. There also is another preference that you may think about and that is the hybrid dog or the "designer dog".

Hybrids are a cross of two purebred dogs from two dissimilar breeds. They are separate from a mutt because their family is known. Each of their parents are purebreds with genetic lines that can generally be traced back many generations.

These days' hybrid dogs are becoming quite popular. They can be found in dog shows, pet stores and even the movies. The hybrids usually have the best personality of each breed and they mingle the best attributes from both breeds.

These hybrid dogs frequently have really entertaining names such as a cockapoo for a cocker and poodle mix, a puggle, which is a pug and beagle combination, a goldendoodle, which is a golden retriever and poodle mix and of course, many other fun mixtures of the two purebred names.

A hybrid dog can be a great pet and if you cannot come to a decision on a individual breed a hybrid may be a excellent pet for you. They are usually the best of the two breeds and they are likely to possess better health than the average purebred. Obedience Training For Your Dog Is A Snap

By Delores Watkins

So what on earth makes a well behaved dog? Is it the dog's own personality and disposition or is it the training methods? Actually, it is a little bit of both. Similar to people some dogs are easy to get along with and intelligent and other dogs are more challenging. Also, certain dogs may respond better to various training methods based upon their own personality. But every dog can be trained and there are a few dog-training concepts that stay static regardless of the training that you employ.

The most crucial idea when it comes to training a dog is timing. Dogs are not human and they do not understand human concepts. All corrections and reinforcements of behavior must be completed immediately. When your dog poops on the floor you need to catch him in the act if you want to correct that behavior. If you don't he will not understand why you are scolding him and your correction will be in vain.

You have be consistent when you are training a dog. Dogs do not comprehend the concept of "sometimes". If you do not want your dog to jump on you when you are wearing your nice business suit then you must never let him jump on you when you are wearing your jeans. If you do not want your dog to chew on your beautiful new and expensive pumps you cannot allow him to chew on your old ratty tennis shoe. With a dog you must be consistent with everything, every time.

Corrections and praise are both crucial. Dogs will learn quicker and easier when they get love and praise so make sure that you let your dog know when he is doing something right. Sometimes owners will do more corrections but praise and corrections are equally crucial.

You need to be authoritative and firm with your dog. When you give him a command he must obey. If he does not follow through then show him but when you speak he must obey every time. A dog does not understand the concept of "sometimes".

Training can be fun and you will have more success if you make it fun. You can always add in some games and some playing while you are teaching and your dog is learning. It will be better for both of you.

Ensure that it is crucial to be reasonable with your dog. When he clearly comprehends what you are wanting from him he is more likely to comply. If he does not seem to understand you can take more time with him and break your training up into smaller times. Work with him and show him the behavior that you want. Use praise and corrections as required.

Usually any dog can be well trained and well behaved but it is up to you as the owner to make sure that he is. You must work with him as necessary and take his own personality into consideration. - 31845

Quick Leash Training For Your New Puppy

By Alexander Burns

One of the great joys of having a dog is being able to go for a walk. A dog that is well leash trained makes a walk relaxing and pleasurable but if your dog is not leash trained that same walk becomes an exercise in frustration and it can even be dangerous.

Puppies need to be trained for the leash when they are very little. If you start early they will learn it quickly and it will be much easier. To begin training your puppy, make sure you begin by getting him used to the collar. He won't like it at first and he might whine and complain but make sure that you have him wear it until he gets used to it. The only time you really need to take it off is when you crate him so there will not be any accidents.

After your puppy has gotten used to the collar you can start preparing him for the leash. Attach it to the collar and just allow him to drag it around the house. Make sure that you are there to watch over him as he could cause some chaos if the leash gets tangled with anything. Pretty soon you can take the leash and practice walking around in the house with him. It may seem strange to walk your puppy around in the house but you will have success earlier if you start out in a place where he is comfortable and as far as that goes there is no place like home.

When he gets comfortable with the leash in the house you can take him out in your yard. He should still be comfortable but there will be a few more distractions. When you are walking him make sure that you discourage any negative behavior and encourage the good behaviors.

If you puppy is pulling on the leash, just stop walking. Stand still. He may still pull for awhile but if you stop every time he pulls he will soon learn not to do that. Make sure that you are talking to him and giving him commands, this is a great time for communication.

If he continues to pull you can also turn around and walk quickly the other way. This will confuse him but he will soon learn that if he wants to walk anywhere that he cannot be pulling on the leash. Repeat these behaviors until he learns that pulling on the leash is undesirable.

Sometimes a puppy will stop himself and not walk with you. In this case you can entice him with treats as an enticement. Don't call him to you and give him the treat but rather put it by your feet and make him come to it. Soon he will learn not to stop.

As soon as your dog is walking next to you with the leash slack make sure that he knows that this is the behavior you want. Words of praise and an occasional treat will go a long way towards reinforcing this behavior. Practice with him regularly and never let him get away with bad behavior and your puppy will be properly leash trained before you know it. - 31845

Reasons For Aggression In Dogs

By Mollie Goodwin

Most every has seen excessive aggression in dogs. It can strike fear into small children and even adults. Some breeds are more inclined to aggression than others but there are often underlying reasons for excessive aggression in dogs and your training methods will be more effective if you take these underlying causes into consideration. A well-behaved dog that you can trust in most circumstances is something that most pet owners prefer.

Aggressive behavior can be caused because your dog wants to establish dominance. Dogs are pack animals and there is always a leader within the pack. Your dog may want to be the alpha dog leader. However, you need to be the alpha dog so let your dog know that you are the leader of this pack. He may still act aggressively towards other animals or other dog's because there is a hierarchy to the pack. This may be one reason why your dog acts aggressively.

Territorial aggression is also a frequent form of aggressive behavior. Your dog will tirelessly protect the things he perceives to be "his" including you, your home and your family. This can be a good thing but it needs to be contained or it can cause difficulties with neighbors and visitors. A dog that is excessively aggressive because of territorial issues is difficult to own.

Fear can cause a dog to act out aggressively. Something happens that frightens him and he does the only thing he knows how to do which is to start growling, pull his ears back, tuck his tail between his legs and act mean. This is just a protective mechanism that is often misunderstood as being direct aggression but the truth is that something instigated the fear, which in turn triggered the aggressive behavior.

A dog's aggressive behavior can be misdirected. Something happens that causes the dog to feel anxious yet he is not able to take his aggression out on what really caused the aggression so he takes it out on something else. This may be a reason why your dog may be fighting with other dogs for no apparent reason. He is releasing his anxiety and aggression that was caused by something else.

There can also be biological reasons for aggression. Many times a female dog will be aggressive when they are protecting a new litter of pups. This type of aggression is understandable as she is protecting her litter from any perceived threats. There is also always a cconsideration of a medical problem if your dog is overly aggressive so taking your dog to the vet for a thorough examination is always suggested.

Spaying your female dog and neutering your male dog will usually help alleviate excessive aggression. Your training efforts will also be easier and more effective. If you are not planning to breeding dogs, spaying and neutering is the responsible thing to do.

If you consider the reasons why your dog may be acting aggressively you can tailor your training efforts and curb the aggression. You can work with your dog's own specific needs and have more success. - 31845

Teacup Yorkie Care: Mealtime

By Boosley Smithe

With so many fine dog food products on the market today, there are many foods designed especially for teacup yorkies. Because of this fact, any caring owner may consider trying some of these specialty dog foods. However, owners should also be advised that the secret to the best dog food lies not only in the food, but also in the care surrounding feeding.

Take advantage of your teacup Yorkie's feedings. Be there for your pet. If you have the time, spend it with your yorkie to encourage proper eating habits.

Many kinds of dog food exist; the main categories are canned, bagged, and prepackaged (plastic containers such as the Caesar brand). Most teacup yorkies' owners find they prefer one form of food over another. Additionally, types of dog food may be mixed and matched.

Add a little panache to your pet's meal. After all, they are a special cuddly creature; anyone who has ever spent much time with this breed would agree. Incorporate pizzazz by creating easy but special variations to your yorkie's diet.

Feeder bins are used by many kennel owners as well as pet owners. These devices help to conveniently store and distribute dry foods in a sanitary, efficient way. Bins also benefit the end user, the teacup yorkie, by getting a meal prepared quickly and tend to be fresher.

Changing a yorkie's diet too quickly will lead to stomach problems or diarrhea. Please be advised to never switch a dog's food too soon. Make small changes, varying ratios of the old to new food slowly over time.

A varied, well-balanced diet will ensure yours as well as your teacup yorkie's health and happiness. Such a meal will supply the proper amounts of protein, carbohydrate, fat, vitamins, minerals, and water. These features are important in keeping your pet healthy and to guarantee his normal development.

Adjustments to a teacup yorkies' diet may need to be made. Be sure to check with your pet's healthcare provider. Under your veterinarian's supervision such changes may be made according to the individual puppy, his rate of growth, his activity level, and so on. - 31845

Dogs bark for a variety of reasons. Mainly, barking is meant for communication purposes. Some breeds are more well known for excessive barking but every dog barks at times. There are situations when you want your dog to bark for communication purposes with you but everyone gets frustrated with a dog that barks excessively.

There are quite a few reasons why a dog will bark. If your dog is bored because he stays in the house or the same yard everyday he may start barking for entertainment. Dogs enjoy social stimulation and interacting with others. Try to have more playtimes or go for more walks. This may help your dog if he is barking excessively out of boredom.

Dogs often bark when they are nervous or scared. Some dogs are never properly socialized and therefore the slightest thing can frighten them. While you are training your dog take him to a few different places and have him be around many people. Reward him when he is well behaved and quiet. A food treat will work wonders to keep him calm in different places and different situations. Soon he will start associating being quiet and well behaved with the treat and this will work wonders towards his excessive barking under these conditions.

Dogs will bark when they are wanting something from you. However, while you want your dog to communicate with you, you also do not want this type of barking to become a bad habit. If you always respond to his barking he will always continue to bark. Try to get him to communicate with you in other ways by praising him and rewarding him for different behaviors. Otherwise you are just training him to bark.

Frequently dogs bark from separation anxiety. They just don't want you to leave them and they bark until you come back. This is disruptive to the neighbors and others so it is usually something you need to stop. It may be easier to do this if you begin when your dog is still a pup and crate him before you leave. That way he is safely in his own space and he will not miss you nearly as much. Also never make a big deal out of leaving but just quietly slip away. He will likely notice that you are away but he won't be so vocal about it.

Dogs bark when they want to protect the people that they love. This is usually considered to be a good thing unless your dog is barking excessively to protect you from the mailman (or mail person!) every single day! In that case try to distract your dog with a treat or some playtime. You can also introduce your dog to the mailman. If he becomes familiar with the people who come by most often then he is less likely to bark excessively. If your dog barks for protection though, you should be grateful as someday you may find yourself in a circumstance where you need that.

You can teach your dog not to bark excessively. A dog trainer can offer you some techniques but often more socialization and more playtimes do wonders to stop excessive barking. Your dog is barking for a reason though, so it is smart to find out the reason why and adjust your training to that.

You will enjoy your dog more and other people will also enjoy your dog more if he doesn't bark excessively. Try to stop the negative behavior of excessive barking while your dog is a little puppy and when he is older you will know that if he is barking he has a good reason. - 31845

Types of Aggression In Dogs

By Roberto V Riley

We've all seen excessive aggression in dogs. It can strike fear into small children and even adults. Some breeds are more prone to aggression than others but there are usually underlying causes of excessive aggression in dogs and your training efforts will be more efficient if you take these underlying reasons into consideration. A well-behaved dog that you can trust in most situations is something that most pet owners prefer.

Aggressive reactions can be caused because your dog wants to establish dominance. Dogs are pack animals and there is always an alpha dog within the pack. Your dog may want to be the alpha dog leader. However, you need to be the leader so let your dog know that you are the alpha dog of this pack. He may still act aggressively towards other animals or other dog's as there is a hierarchy to the pack. This may be one reason why your dog acts aggressively.

Territorial aggression is also a frequent form of aggressive behavior. Your dog will tirelessly protect the things he perceives to be "his" including you, your home and your family. This can be a good thing but it needs to be contained or it can cause problems with neighbors and visitors. A dog that is excessively aggressive because of territorial issues is difficult to own.

Often a dog will strike out from fear. Something frightens your dog and rather than retreat he strikes out and attacks. The dog will start growling, pull his ears back and tuck his tail between his legs. Many times this type of aggression is mistook for direct aggression. Fear aggression is mostly caused by a situation that has scared the dog. He is striking out because he is frightened and does not know how to handle that fright.

A dog's aggressive behavior can be misdirected. Something happens that causes the dog to feel anxious yet he is not able to take his aggression out on what really caused the aggression so he takes it out on something else. This may be a reason why your dog may be fighting with other dogs for no obvious reason. He is releasing his anxiety and aggression that was caused by something else.

There can also be medical or biological reasons for aggression. A mother dog will often express aggression when she is protecting her litter of puppies. This type of aggression is understandable however sometimes a medical issue could be causing excessive aggression so it is always wise to have your vet give your dog a thorough examination.

Most dogs will be calmer and have a better disposition if they are spayed or neutered. This will also make your training efforts easier and more effective not to mention the fact that there are too many unwanted and unloved dogs out there. If you are not in the dog-breeding profession it is just the responsible thing to do to get your dog spayed or neutered.

Your training efforts to curb aggression will be more effective if you take into consideration the reasons why your dog is being aggressive. Understanding the reasons for your dog's aggressive tendencies can help you to tailor your training methods to his needs. - 31845

Yorkie Puppies' Skin Diseases

By Betsy Smith

Thinking about bringing a yorkie puppy under your wing? If so, please pay attention to this important information about possible skin diseases your new puppy may incur.

External parasites are fleas, ticks, ice, and harvest mites. These little visitors are a major cause of skin trouble and eczemas. They are easily picked up from wild vermin (e.g. hedgehogs) and other infected dogs or cats.

Parasite bites are a site for sore eyes and lead to intense irritation, licking and biting with sores and scabs breaking out. Effective bathing or spraying of the affected yorkie puppy and all in-contact animals, as well as the room where the yorkie puppy lives, is essential.

Apply treatment found at the drug store to your poor yorkie puppy's wounds. Salves and ointments are better applied when the pup is comfortable and in the most warm, loving environment.

Worms must be eradicated at all costs. No human being would want to be infested with worms and neither does any yorkie puppy.

Yorkie puppies may also suffer from one of the unfortunately common general skin conditions that so often can be inflicted. Some common skin conditions that yorkies may be infected with are allergies, dermatitis, or eczema.

Tapeworm may be noticed as "little rice grains" stuck to the hair close to the anus. The tapeworm passes through the "intermediate host" during its development, usually a flea, so it is important to de-flea as well as to give the yorkie puppy a worm dose.

In the case of a surefire allergic reaction, treat the yorkie puppy's skin with a soothing ointment or cream prescribed by the veterinarian. Then do not forget to remove all sources of the allergy from the yorkie's environment to prevent future reactions. - 31845
